As the main and quick-wear part of the pellet mill, in order to guarantee the production and quality of the pellet, we will customize ring die according to different types of the pellet. When producing the ring die, material also plays an important role. Here we will introduce the main material which is used to produce the ring die, together with the the character of these materials.
Ring die is an alloy forgery part processed by machinery and heat treatment. The main material used to produce ring die divides into three categories, carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel.
Carbon Steel
Carbon structure steel, such as, 45# steel, owns the HRC 45-50. It is one kinds of low-end materials used to produce ring die, which is also eliminated right now.
Alloy Steel
Alloy structure steel, such as 40Cr, 35CrMo, owns the HRC>50, and great comprehensive mechanical performance. Ring die produced by this kind of material has the character of high strength and abradability, but its corrosion resistance is poor, especially when producing fishery pellet, wood pellet, straw pellet.
20CrMnTi and 20CrMn5 are low carburizing alloy steel. 20CrMnTi is for Chinese standard, while 20CrMn5 is for European standard. These two models are same material, only with different names. But limited by the carburzing technology, the max. depth of the hardening layer is 1.2mm. It owns the character of low cost comparing with stainless steel.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel, which is known as 4Cr13 in China, and X46Cr13 in Euro, is the most suitable material for producing ring die. The material owns better stiffness and toughness than alloy steel, higher HRC (52-56) and deeper hardening layer than carbon steel, together with great abrasive corrosion resistance. With all these characters, the lifespan of ring die produced by X46Cr13 is longer, meanwhile, the cost is higher than the other two materials. Due to its longer working life, the frequency of replace is low, the production cost per ton is also lower.
Based on the characters we mentioned above, hope this article can help our clients find the suitable material they want for the ring die.
